The Apostolic Assembly In Jerusalem - Acts 15

    The Apostolic Assembly In Jerusalem
- And some of them that came down from Judaea taught the brethren thus, If ye be not circumcised according to the manner of Moses, ye can not be saved.
- When Paul and Barnabas had no small quarrel and strife against them, it was decided that Paul and Barnabas, and some of them, should go up to Jerusalem, the apostles, and the elders, on that question.
- And they, being accompanied by the church, passed through Phenicia and Samaria, counting the conversion of the Gentiles; and gave great joy to all the brethren.
- And when they came to Jerusalem, they were received by the church, and the apostles, and the elders, and told them how great things God had dealt with them.
- But some of the sect of the Pharisees, which believed, rose up, saying that it was necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
- And the apostles and the elders came together to consider this matter.
- And when there was a great controversy, Peter arose and said unto them, Brethren, ye know that God hath chosen me a long time from us, that the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel, and that they should believe.
- And God, who knoweth the hearts, hath borne witness unto them, to give them the Holy Ghost, even as he also to us;
- And he made no difference between them and us, purifying their hearts by faith.
- And now, why do ye tempt God, putting upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?
- But we believe that we shall be saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, as also they.
- And all the multitude kept silence, and listened to Barnabas and Paul, how great signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles among them.
- And when they were silent, James took the word, saying, Men, brethren, hear me, saying,
- Simon reported how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name.
- And with this the words of the prophets agree; as it is written:
- After this I will return, and I will build the tabernacle of David that is fallen, I will raise him up from his ruins, and will build him again.
- That the rest of men may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord that doeth all these things,
- All his works are known to God from the beginning of the world.
- Therefore I think that they should not be troubled among the Gentiles, who are converted to God.
- But write unto them, that they abstain from the defilement of idols, from fornication, from that which is smitten, and from blood.
- For from the days of old Moses hath a preacher in every city, and every sabbath read in the synagogues.

The Decisions Of The Church Of Jerusalem
- And it pleased the apostles and the elders with all the church to elect men from among them, and to send them with Paul and Barnabas unto Antioch, namely, Judas called Barsabas, and Silas, a man distinct among the brethren.
- And they wrote unto them, saying, The apostles, and the elders, and the brethren, and the brethren among the Gentiles that are in Antioch, and Syria, and Cilicia, health.
- For we have heard that some of you who have gone out from us have troubled you with words and upset your souls, saying that you must circumcise yourselves and keep the law, having not given them commandment,
- It seemed good to us, having gathered together, to elect some men, and to send them with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
- Men who have expounded their lives by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- So we sent Judas and Silas, who by word of mouth will tell you the same things.
- And it seems good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay no more charge upon thee, save these things which are needful:
- That ye abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from stifled flesh, and from fornication, of what things ye do well if ye keep yourselves. Well, go.
- And when they had departed, they departed unto Antioch, and gathered the multitude, and delivered the letter.
- And when they had read it, they rejoiced at the exhortation.
- And Judas and Silas, who were also prophets, exhorted and confirmed the brethren with many words.
- And when they had tarried there for some time, the brethren let them return in peace to the apostles;
- But it seemed good to Silas to be there.
- And Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord with many others.

The Second Missionary Journey of the Apostle Paul
- And it came to pass after a few days, that Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us visit again our brethren in all the cities, where we have spoken the word of the Lord, to see how they are.
- And Barnabas counseled to take John, whose name was Mark, with him.
- But it seemed reasonable to Paul that they should not take with them that which had departed from Pamphylia from them, and did not accompany them in that work.
- And such strife was between them, that they departed from one another. Barnabas, taking Mark with him, sailed to Cyprus.
- And Paul, having chosen Silas, departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of God.
- And he passed through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.
