    The Apostles Peter And John Are Imprisoned In Jerusalem-Acts 4

    The Apostles Peter And John Are Imprisoned In Jerusalem
And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees,
- They were very sick of teaching the people, and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
- And they laid their hands on them, and put them in prison until the next day, for it was evening.
- But many of them that heard the word believed, and the number of these men came to almost five thousand.
- And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and the elders, and the scribes, 6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and all that were of the seed of the sea priest.
- And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power or in whose name did ye do this?
- Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and ye elders of Israel,
- Since today we are questioned about the benefit to a sick man, and how he was healed,
- Let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified and whom God raised from the dead, in the name of this one is he that is before you.
- He is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which was made the head of a corner.
- And in none other is there salvation: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
- And when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and were informed that they were unlearned and unlearned men, they marveled, and knew that they had been with Jesus.
- And when the man that was healed was with them, they had nothing to say otherwise.
- And when they had sent them out of the council, they conferred with one another,
- And saying, What shall we do unto these men? for it is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem that a notorious sign has been made for them, and we can not deny it;
- But lest he should be made public among the people, let us threaten them, that they speak no more to a man.
- And when they had called them, they had told them not to speak or teach in the name of Jesus.
- But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be a righteous thing before God to hear you rather than to God;
- For we can not but speak of what we have seen and heard.
- But they threatened them still more, and, finding no reason to punish them, let them go, because of the people; because they all glorified God for what had happened;
- For he was over forty years old the man in whom this miracle of health had taken place.
- And when they were released, they went to their own, and told them all that the chief priests and the elders had told them.
- And when they heard this, they lifted up their voice to God, and said, Lord, thou art the God that made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all that is in them;
- And thou hast said by the mouth of thy servant David, Why did the heathen rage, and the people thought vain things?
- And the kings of the earth arose, and the princes assembled together against the LORD, and against his anointed.
- For truly Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, gathered themselves together against thy holy son Jesus whom thou hast anointed;
- To do all that thy hand and thy counsel had previously determined that it should be done.
- Now therefore, O LORD, look upon their threats, and grant unto thy servants that they speak with all boldness thy word;
- As you stretch out your hand to heal, and to do signs and wonders for the name of your holy son Jesus.
- And when he had prayed, the place where they were gathered was moved; and all were filled with the Holy Spirit, and boldly proclaimed the word of God.

    Union And Love Were Evident Among Primitive Believers
- And the heart and soul of the multitude of them that believed were one, and no man said that any of his possessions were his own, but all things were common unto them.
- And the apostles gave with great power a testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and in all there was abundant grace.
- And there was no needy among them; because all who owned estates or houses, selling them, brought the price of what had been sold, and deposited it at the feet of the apostles.
- And he divided himself according to his need.
- Then Joseph, whom the sons of Barnabas called the son of consolation, called Levite, a native of Cyprus,
- Having an estate, he sold it, and brought the price, and laid it at the feet of the apostles.
