    Paul In The City Of Thessalonica And In Berea - Acts Chapter 17

    Paul In The City Of Thessalonica And In Berea
    1 - And when they passed by Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.
    2 - And Paul, as he had customarily, went to them; and for three sabbaths disputed with them over the Scriptures,
    3 - Exposing and demonstrating that it was fitting that Christ should suffer and rise from the dead. And this Jesus, who proclaimed to you, he said, is the Christ.
    4 - And some of them believed, and gathered themselves together with Paul and Silas; and also a great multitude of religious Greeks, and not a few principal women.
    5 - But the Jews who were disobedient with envy took some wicked men from among the idlers, and gathered the people together, and made the city afraid, and seized the house of Jason, and sought to bring them to the people.
    6 - And when they had not found them, they brought Jason and certain brethren before the magistrates of the city, crying, These who have stirred up the world, have come also here;
    7 - Which Jason hath gathered; and all these proceed against the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.
    6 - And the multitude, and the rulers of the city, heard these things.
    9 - And when they had received the satisfaction of Jason and the rest, they let them go.
    10 - And immediately the brethren sent Paul and Silas by night unto Berea; and they went thither unto the synagogue of the Jews.
    11 - Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, because they gladly received the word, examining every day in the Scriptures whether these things were so.
    12 - So many of them believed, and also Greek women of the noble rank, and not a few men.
    13 - But when the Jews of Thessalonica knew that the word of God was also spoken by Paul at Beroea, they went thither, and stirred up the multitudes.
    14 - And immediately the brethren sent Paul to go into the sea, but Silas and Timothy stayed there.

    Address Of The Apostle Paul In The Capital Athens
    15 - And they that were with Paul brought him to Athens, and having received orders that Silas and Timothy should come to him as soon as possible, they departed.
    16 - And while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was moved in himself, seeing the city so devoted to idolatry.
    17 - So that he disputed in the synagogue with the Jews and the clergy, and every day in the market place with them that were present.
    18 - And some of the philosophers Epicureans and Stoics disputed with him; and some said, What does this parrot mean? And others: It seems that he is a preacher of strange gods; because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.
    19 - And they took him, and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine is of which thou speakest?
    20 - For strange things do you bring to our ears; we want to know what this is.
    21 - (For all Athenians and strangers living abroad, of no other thing bothered, but to speak and hear some newness.)
    22 - And when Paul was in the midst of the Areopagus, he said, Athenian men, in all things I see you somewhat superstitious;
    23 - And as I passed by, and saw your sanctuaries, I found also an altar in which it was written, TO GOD UNKNOWN. This, therefore, which you honor, not knowing it, is what I declare to you.
    24 - The God who made the world and all that is in him, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made by the hands of men;
    25 - Neither is it served by the hands of men, as if in need of anything; for he himself gives life to all, and breath, and all things;
    26 - And he made the whole generation of men of one blood to dwell on all the face of the earth, determining the times which were before appointed, and the border of their habitation;
    27 - That they might seek the LORD, if they might have found it by chance, even though it is not far from each one of us;
     28 - For in him we live, and move, and we are; as also some of your poets said: For we also are his generation.
    29 - Now when we are the offspring of God, we shall not see that the Godhead is like gold, or silver, or stone carved by artifices and the imagination of men.
    30 - But God, ignoring the times of ignorance, now announces to all men, and in all places, that they repent;
    31 - For he hath appointed a day wherein he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he hath appointed; and this gave assurance to all, by raising him from the dead.
    32 - And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked them, and some said, We will hear of this again.
    33 - And Paul went out from among them.
